Abstract

Diary kept by Grant as a member of the U.S. Christian Commission on a trip from New York to visit wounded soldiers during the Civil War (May 1864). He brought supplies to men in hospitals in Washington, D.C. and northern Virginia. Entries record people he met, medical care of the sick and wounded, and notes of personal data on some of those who died.
